Artist's Research Questions

Are clues to advances in science hidden in the arts and humanities?  Comment: Research to date suggests yes.  Therefore, an organizing premise of this research is that the history of the arts and humanities contain qualitative expression of principles that are presently poorly defined within scientific concepts.

How can art be integrated into training curriculum for researchers exploring origin of life astromaterial sample analysis?  Specifically, the Osiris-Rex, Artemis, and Mars Sample Return missions?

Can engaging, participatory, multisensory, multi-cultural, folkloric arts and humanities activate, expand or refine a somatic, visceral capacity in a a person’s/researcher.  Can this increase their potential for creativity, innovation, exploration and discovery, in general, and specifically for origin of life projects?

How can the arts and humanities create experiences which clarify the dynamics between precision measurement versus whole systems biology integration?

How can art simply convey complex anatomy and physiology/psychophysiology principles to engage, encourage and teach skills to people to support life force, health, mental health, relationships, and thriving in the world?

Translating Origin of Life Principles

Do the arts and humanities contain clues to a category of inherent biological, human force that is poorly identified in scientific and medical disciplines?

Comment: Based upon this researcher's assessment of the proposed structures and mechanisms of the protocell, the answer is yes.  How can this concept artistically convey the philosophical, ontological, and epistemological implications?  And then, apply to support societal benefits and economic impact of these insights?

Approach to the Arts, Humanities and Sciences

The approach of this art sytle is to infuse whole body, anatomy and physiology, expression and imagery into the hard sciences. The intent is to invoke exploration and inquiry, systems integration, discovery and innovation, and hopefully, a genius leap or two.

The intent is to convey concepts of science and the human experience in poignant visual imagery, and, or multi-sensory experiences.

The Etymology of the word science means:  to cut, to separate.

The etymology of the word art means:  to join, to fit together.

Together, these two forces, separating and joining, are two fundamental princieples and human forces that shape human activity, exploration, and science output.

A central intention of this art is to illuminate these two forces to support the art experiencer to recognizes the these forces and to use them in their course of their research.  Together these two forces create a more robust skill set for the researcher than either force alone.

Another intention is to blend concepts of precision, systems biology and anatomy and physiology to enhance the imagination of the human body an instrument in the journey of exploration, inquiry and discovery.  For example, how do physical scientists hold the philosophy of the human body as an instrument in their research.  Versus, how do biological scientists hold the philosophy of the human body as an instrument in their research.  Versus, how do artists, social scientists, and researchers in the humanities hold the philosophy of the human body as an instrument in their research.

Arts and Sciences Research Overview

A portion of this research examines the continuum between the following span of phenomena:

  1. The principles of ‘communication’, ‘force’, and ‘work’ across the academic spectrum; the disciplines of physical, biological, and social sciences, and the arts and humanities.
  2. The arts and humanities of human experience, expression, human learning. Principles of multiple intelligences
  3. Principles of linguistics.
  4. Communication signaling across layers of human anatomy and physiology.
  5. Principles of signs, symbolic representation, and communication in human anatomy and physiology.
  6. Artistic principles in design, graphics, and logos.

This knowledge synthesis is then applied to a simple art design application.  This graphical, expressive concept, in several forms, is designed to augment a training curriculum.  The training curriculum is proposed to increase the efficiency of inquiry, exploration, discovery and science output in general science, biology, astrobiology, astromaterial sample analysis, and origin of life research.

It is proposed to have immediate benefit to origin of life research conducted by:

  1. The NASA’s ARES; the Astromaterial Research and Exploration Science division
  2. The NASA Osiris-REx Origin of Life Working group, smaple analysis phase
  3. The Mare Sample Return Mission, sample analysis phase

Historical References

Based upon the independent scholarship of the Daniel Lapppin, a gap has been identified between the domains of science,  medical, and entertainment illustration and animation,

It is proposed that the core oversight is:

  1. A clear understanding of human anatomy and physiology
  2. The cost of creating illustration and computer animation.

This independent scholarship has identified that art history since the beginning of the euro-american scientific revolution show clues to the progression of human physiology that are fragmented between the arts and the sciences.  As well, the progression of medical concepts since The Flexner Report on Medical Education in 1910 further shows fragmented concepts of human anatomy and physiology between the arts and the sciences, specifically in the curriculum of medical schools, and the implications to public health.

Another intention of this art is to integrate human anatomy and physiology across the arts and sciences, with an intent to repair the historic trends of siloed education.

About My Style

This art is purpose driven.  A central intention is to convey principles of ontology (being) and epistemology (knowing), and methods that span the arts and the sciences.  The style is an embodied systems biology, anatomy and physiology expression and invitation.  It is a synthesis of transdisciplinary principles organized around the themes of anatomy. and physiology, work, communication (signals, signs), and measurement.

The art is currently in design to be presented in several forms:

  1. Digital illustrations: collages of existing images pieced together in meaning formats.
  2. Physiology illustrations in various formats, such as the progression of anatomy and physiology over history, as seen across the arts and sciences.
  3. Stylized medical illustration.
  4. Artistic, expressive info graphics designed to augment a training program (in development) for sample return scientists and astrobiologists.

Future artistic development will engage movement and performing arts to express these core themes.

This art is an extension of Daniel’s personal journey.

Born with genetic polymorphisms that contributed to a complex medical condition in his youth, Daniel has spent decades struggling with a mysterious disease and difficult life altering symptoms.

His illness became his teacher.

The symptoms of this condition had notable impact upon specific brain and body physiology.

Such as, the visual cortex, skin, membrane, brain stem, temporal lobe, hippocampus, pre frontal cortex.

To sustain his health and physical and cognitive function he developed extreme forms of self-awareness, fitness, and a method of resilience and recovery.  To understand the medical condition from which suffered, he explored a wide range of wide of sciences, arts and humanities.

See:  https://interogenesis.com/2.html

His art is an expression of his journey and the wisdom which he gathered and synthesized.

The intent of the art is to help others thrive in the world, often in the face of challenges.

Over time, Daniel became a health care practitioner, a massage therapist and trauma bodyworker, and a trained hospice volunteer, exploring a broad range of information on health, physiology and medicine.  He is a physiologist.

From his journey, he concluded that gaps exists between the sciences and the arts and humanities that related to the nature of human anatomy and physiology and health.  Therefore, a central intent of his art Is to fill these gaps in a manner that support people to thrive.

Art Pieces in Development

The Imagination Seed

This piece builds upon a popular theme of space exploration and astrophysics from the late 1800’s, and creates a visual, historic, collage of artistic, scientific, and societal trends to invite the viewer into the imagination of the past, present and future.

The goal is to invite attention to the new era of space exploration and astrobiology, given the current sample return mission, Osiris-Rex, Artemis lunar mission and the Mars Sample Return Mission.

An underlying theme is both space exploration and the search for the origin of life.

Digital Collage.

The Origin of Life

This piece expresses the integration of cosmology, the progression of the origin of life, and the nature of the human anatomy and physiology.
